Pickleball Club Meeting Minutes 1 June 2025

President - Jan Belt:

  • The minutes for the last PB Club meeting and the recent Officers’ meeting were approved.

  • The PB Club will have both the East and West courts for play on the 1st, 3rd and any 5th Saturdays of each month. Tennis has them both courts in the mornings on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays.  Please show up on the 2nd or 4th Saturdays at noon because Tennis has both courts in the morning.

  • Eighty-four members have paid 2025 dues. The members are having fun playing. The membership is under 25% non-residents, and the club has room for 2 more non-residents.

  • Jan encouraged PB Club members to patronize the Rendezvous Bar and Grill after the weekend play. On Sundays we may have meals at Zanes.

  • The Pickleball Club turnout has been very high. The Clubhouse Manager has given us a good schedule for the Summer.

  • The courts open at 8 AM in June, July, and August. Players often show up at 8:30. If you want to start playing at 8 AM, please arrange for others to join you.

  • The harder hitting players (Advanced players) are encouraged to use the courts farthest from building 250, leaving the courts closer to building 250 for the quieter/softer hitters.

  • The PB Club plans to hold Round Robins and Ladder competitions on weekends each month alternating between Saturdays and Sundays.

  • The Club Officers will write up and publish suggestions for playing etiquette.

VP - Linda Hileman:

  • The nets should be inserted in the frames before they are moved into position because it is easier to move them after the poles are inserted. There is no need to unclip or loosen the black webbing loops, just pull them over the top of the poles. The top of the black straps should be positioned even with the top of the red tape on the poles, so the net is at the correct height.  After play, the net and frame should be moved to the side of the court before pulling the black straps over the poles.  The straps do not have to be unfastened, simply lifted off the top of the side poles. The net poles should remain inside the white net sleeve and be taken out of the frame and put together, then the center pole and center net should be turned a half turn and placed with the end poles before wrapping the nets.  The half turn keeps the net from getting tangled over the top of the poles the next time it is unrolled.  The nets are stored in the gray trash bin next to the storage shed.

Secretary - Ron Hileman:

  • HGMD has approved filling the crack by Court Repair Services, Inc.

  • A recent work session has installed two new nets, has reinforced the casters on the net frames so they are less likely to get bent, has installed brackets and screws in the frame to reduce separation of the frame segments, and has run AC power to the equipment shed so the leaf blower batteries can be recharged in the shed. Six more frames will have screws inserted in a future work session.

  • The website camera has gone down again and will be left down.  It may be restarted this fall after the wind screens are rolled up.

  • The noise complaints from building 250 have subsided.  The renter who was the primary complainant has moved away from Heather Gardens.

Treasure - Florey Laubacher:

  • The bank balance is around $2,700.  The Club is in good financial shape.

  • The dues are used for new nets, pickleballs, social events, and supplies needed for our social tournaments.

Social Chair - Michael Greene:

  • The PB Club financed the meal at the 1 June 2025 club meeting.

  • Michael is gathering pictures of the new players so they can be posted on the website.

  • Michael will announce future social events in the PB Club email blasts.

Open Session:

  • Jan Belt was given a round of applause for her efforts that gave the Pickleball Club more scheduled prime time hours.

  • Several players that play at other venues commented that it is more fun to play with the HG Pickleball Club.

  • Suggestion for improvements can be given to any of the officers.
